Fire Safety Devices to Install in the Different Parts of the House
Whenever you get home, there is that sense of peace and calm that washes over you. It is as if no harm can get to you once you are inside the perimeters of your safety zone. It is true that most homeowners feel this way. But do you know that there are also danger lurking inside your home? One of this is the possibility of a fire accident. To keep your home and family safe from this tragedy, install fire safety equipment that can provide you with utmost protection as well as some peace of mind.
Smoke Alarms
Smoke alarms are essential to fire evacuation. They alert the family about the occurrence of a fire and allow family members to get out of the burning premises as quickly as possible. As you know, fires can grow instantly so every second counts. Once the alarm goes off, the whole family should make their way out as fast as they can. It is imperative to have a smoke alarm installed in every level of the house.
Fire Blankets
Fire blankets are handy flame retardant materials that can put out small flames before they grow big and out of control. It is handy to have fire blankets in the kitchen and in other areas of the house where a fire is likely to occur.
Fire Extinguishers
Fire extinguishers, meanwhile, are firefighting equipment that can tackle a fire during the initial stage. These safety devices come in different types, all of which are designed to put out different kinds of fire.
For example, in the kitchen, the ideal extinguisher to use there is the wet chemical fire extinguisher designed for grease and cooking oil fires. For the garage, the foam fire extinguisher designed for flammable liquid fires is ideal to install.
Powder fire extinguishers meanwhile should be installed in the living area, as these extinguishers can tackle Class A, B, and C fires, which involve solid organic material (paper, wood, clothing), flammable liquids, and flammable gases. As for electrical fires, CO2 fire extinguishers are the safest and most effective to use.
Installing the right type of extinguisher in the different areas of the house is important not only to provide maximum protection but also to prevent serious injury and further damage.
Of course, it is not enough that you have all of these fire safety devices if you do not know how to use them properly. While fire blankets are relatively easy to use, fire extinguishers entail more complicated steps that would seem easy once you have mastered using it.
To use a fire extinguisher, you must first pull the safety pin. Then aim the nozzle at the base of the fire. After this, squeeze the lever gently and make a sweeping motion from side to side to completely extinguish the flames. Repeat the steps until you are absolutely sure that the fire is out.
When it comes to the safety of your family, you can never be too sure. Investing on all these fire safety equipment may mean money out of your pocket but you will not really mind. After all, money is nothing compared to the safety and welfare of your most beloved.
